It's almost a lie to call this boat a kit.  As delivered from small world models (aka Dave Manley subs), there is very little to build, the only thing to be done is to cut the free flood holes on the bottom, glue on the sail and a few detail items, mount the servos and receiver, paint it , add ballast and away you go.

Conclusion

I didn't get the "out of box" experience that I expected from this boat.  I thought that I would just have to toss in a few servos, cut a few flood holes, throw in a battery and away I go but this wasn't the case.  One problem is that the boat didn't come with instructions so I set up the ballast wrong.  Also there were some simple quality control issues that needed to be resolved.  Nothing major, but I was not expecting them.  Once I got all the bugs worked out, the boat ran beautifully.  I did find it a little slow for my taste.  It is about as fast as a slow walk on a 7 cell nicad battery pack.  I also found it on the small size for running in a lake, however it would be perfect for a decent sized pool.  An advantage of the small size is that it's easy to carry around.  Maybe the perfect boat if you have to hike to the water.  It all depends on what you are looking for...
