The Vegesack does not come with running hardware but does allow for it to be installed. The boat comes with the wooden keel stiffener that has room to mount a servo for operating the rudder and also has a cutout for the drive line and motor. I used a 1/8-inch drive shaft running in a hollow tube that just had enough clearance so as not to bind. The drive line is epoxied to the keel stiffener. Originally, I thought I could use a motor from radio shack that was designed to run on 1.5 to 3 volts but it was not strong enough. The original plans calls for strapping the motor down to the piece of wood glued to the keel stiffener but my motor will be much thicker then what the plans called for so the supplied strap will not fit. I was going to use a piece of fuel line to link the motor to the prop but this simply did not work.  I think I will try a Dumas dog bone.  I'll update this when I finalize the setup
The propeller is not included in the kit. I'm using one made for a Nikko RC boat. The blades had to be trimmed slightly to fit the given space and the shaft inlet also had to be widened. It's held on the shaft by some CA glue. The rudder is assembled by gluing to halves together around a center aluminum tube. The tube is attached to a wire that runs down from the boat to the rudder.
This picture shows the top half of the hull attached to the bottom half.  Some glue called UHU was included in the kit and I tried to use it but it did not end up holding the pieces together.  This glue has probably been sitting for over 20 years so I guess it lost it's effectiveness.    I ended up using epoxy.  The two pieces join together at the curled area that represents the rubber bumper.  This made gluing them together easy and hid the seem quite well.

Here is a side view of the boat.  The top super structure is simply placed upon the hull.  If you look closely, you will see some small post between the hull and super structure.  These help hold the top on because they exert slight pressure against the lip on the top.

One note on painting.  I use to use masking tape to mark off the hull before spray painting them.  This left a somewhat ragged line between colors.  I now use 3m clear tape.  The lines come out very crisp.

Adding a little detail on the boat.   You know, for being an ebay give-away boat, it's shaping up nicely.Vege3.jpg (9813 bytes)
My original design for the drive line did not work.  I'm currently seeking parts to do a dog bone setup.

(More to come)
