| Steppke by Robbe This kit is based on the daughter boat of the Berlin rescue boat. This boat is meant to be launched and retrieved from the Berlin but it is also sold as a stand alone kit. This is a small boat but still makes a good stand alone kit.
The Steppke's hull is made out of clear vacuum molded plastic. It features a remote controlled hook that is used to attach itself to the Berlin's winch. The construction section shows how the boat is built and what is included in the kit and power function set. This boat is fairly easy to build and performs surprisingly well. It has a great turning radius and peppy performance. The only complaint I can come up with is that there is no provision for charging the battery. You must unplug it from the switch harness and plug it in your charger. This must be done via the small hatch in the cockpit. I did initially have a problem with the speed controller in the power set but it magically disappeared. It may have been caused by a cold solder joint but who knows. It is working fine now and I don't expect any future problems. The real solution to the initial problem would be to return it for another one but being pigheaded, I had to try and figure out what was wrong. I like this boat and would recommend it for someone looking for a small boat and it is almost mandatory for anyone building a Berlin.
