Hull Prep

Up Hull Prep Front Drive

This kit requires a lot of extra parts to complete.  Besides the hull kit, you will need 4 SPPS drives, the fitting set, 4 drive motors, two water pumps, a bunch of micro motors and gear boxes and on and on.  The instructions are obviously a direct translation from German to English and are somewhat hard to read and understand.  They are not as good as other large scale boats like the Robbe Berlin.  Hopefully I will be able to figure it out!Click for high resolution image
The first thing to build is a stand.  The wood is not included but a template is making it an easy task.Click for high resolution image
Several holes needs to cut into the hull.  Most of them are scribed but the scribing is extremely light.  I had a very hard time seeing some of them, I think it would have been easier to see a flea on the moon.

This is the stern of the ship, it has two drives.  Interestingly, these are not the main drives, the front ones are.

The rear drives needs a 16mm hole.  I used a small drill bit to drill several holes to get close to the right size...Click for high resolution image
...then I cleaned the hole up with a dremel sanding drum.  The drum is just slightly smaller then 16 mm so it worked very well.Click for high resolution image
The front drives are mounted a little different and require a larger hole.  There are scribe marks where the holes should go but they are almost invisible.Click for high resolution image
The ship features a moon pool for diver support.  This one is well scribedClick for high resolution image
I tried a number of different methods to make this cut but but ended up drilling a bunch of small holes and sanding it smooth.Click for high resolution image
Several small ovals are cut into the bow, there are not marks as to where they go but the blue prints do show them.Click for high resolution image
Finally all of the holes are cut and the hull is now ready for the drive installation.Click for high resolution image
