My sixteen year old is helping. We are big r/c fans with 14 planes 2 -t-maxxes and two boats the other is a Dumas scarab nearing completion. I've included a picture of the deckhouse taking shape...P.S. We live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada the Stampede City" Quite a nice first attempt!
| Greg sent me an update on his progress. As you can see the boat is coming along nicely! | |
He writes: Here are some update pictures. I replaced the plastic prop with a brass one.
Tip for railings: predrill holes then install railing posts one at a time feeding wire as you go much easier and cleaner bends.
| I've still got lots to do on Amsterdam including lighting and windows. Using a lot of Graupner lights and for windows am using microscope cover glasses. | |
| On 6/15/02, Greg sent me this update: Hi Dean, Hope this inspires you to finish the Amsterdam. Attached some pics about 98% done just ladders , paint touch ups & odd little fitting to add. | |
Water tested about a week ago went great - the bow thruster really helps as it turns lazy and wide without it. Ballast is huge probably weighs about 60 lbs.
I'll send you some on water pics after the official launch. Have Graupner lights wired all over gives great scale effect. Very pleased for first boat project and the Amsterdam was a ten for value. If you want a great speed control 6-24 volt Electronize Design in the U.K they have a website Model FR30HX is what I'm using .
Also included pic of Brass BB's for Ballast. distribute them in boat while floating in tub using level to check balance then put light coating of glue let set then cover in low expanding foam, keeps everything tight will send pics of this later also. Hope you and the new Mrs. are well. Greg R.
