I'm using a Kyosho AquaSpeed stock motor for this test. It's an 18 turn 3 wind motor designed specifically for RC boats. I'm also using a Traxxas XL-1 speed controller which is rated to handle a motor down to 17 turns. The speed is very good, the straight away speed is fast and requires that the boat be slowed to turn or risk flipping it over.
Ugh!!!! After running the boat for several minutes it just quit dead, right in the middle of the lake! Fortunately Phil was there is one of his Vac-U-Tugs setup to rescue stranded boats.
An autopsy of the speed controller showed massive overheating and several burnt traces. Pictured here are the repaired traces.
The top side was also showed a ton of overheating and two of the reverse transistor where destroyed. Who knows what other components are damaged, this one is headed for the circular filing cabinet!
