| The Turbo Cat is an old kit that Robbe use to produce. It is still a good looking boat but the hull is heaver compared to modern kits. The added weight does make for a stronger, more ridged hull. The outboard motor looks good but is potentially limited in performance due to the gear drive used. It is also heavy as the lower leg is made out of metal. I must admit that this boat is faster than I thought it would be. With a cheap 19 turn motor, I found the performance to be exciting. Don't get me wrong, it is not ready to go racing but it does move very well for a sport tunnel hull. The adjustable outboard angle is not just a gimmick, it actually makes a good bit of difference in the ride of the boat. This adds to the fun of running the boat.
I have tried several motors with this boat, the fastest of which was a Kyosho Aquaspeed stock 18 turn motor. The performance with it was good, there is a video of it in the #3 sea trials page. I did have trouble with speed controllers overheating and even burning up. There is no air circulation in the hull but it can be added by cutting holes in the top canopy but I decided not to to keep the insides as dry as possible. Viewed: | |||
